ABOUT THIS SITE
Welcome to My Site! This site is all about history - Canadian history. More specifically, Canadians from the three Maritime Provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island - those known traditionally as "Maritimers." My focus is primarily on Maritimers' experiences and contributions during and after the First World War (FWW). But that is not all. The means of achieving this goal is specific and unique. I use their letters, their diaries and writings - by letting those Maritimers speak for themselves - IN THEIR OWN WORDS!
My JOURNEY - Why I did this?

Although interested in history since childhood, it was never my intention to be an active historian. Following a sabbatical leave to England in 2011, my wife and son joined me for a brief vacation to France and Belgium. There we did the usual and visited the typical war sites including Vimy Ridge, Juno Beach (WW2) and the city of Ypres, Belgium. We learned a great deal AND we visited the enormous cemeteries containing thousands of Canadian graves. We were moved and shaken. I was determined to share with my fellow Maritimers the extent of our participation, contributions and sacrifices during the two World Wars. But especially the more distant and lesser known Great War whose anniversary was fast approaching.

The purpose of this site is to inform and to encourage. You will find here descriptions of my books on Maritimers and the Great War. Obviously, I hope that your interest will be sufficiently stimulated that you buy, read and enjoy them as much as I derived pleasure in researching and writing them. We have received an amazing heritage and have been left such an inspirational legacy!
